Do I need a permit to put a prefabricated shed on my property?

Yes. Any exterior additions and improvements require a Land Use permit, and may also require Stormwater permit and Certificate of Appropriateness (if located in the Historic District). See our Permits and Licenses page for more information.

Am I allowed to rent my house on Airbnb?

There are Zoning limitations to where lodging uses are permitted. If you are located in a district that permits Vacation Rentals and/or Homestays, you will need a Land Use Permit and a Certificate of Use and Occupancy. There are building code requirements for commercial uses that residential uses are not subject to, so you may need to make safety and/or access improvements to meet the Pennsylvania Uniformed Construction Code requirements for lodging uses to obtain a Certificate of Use and Occupancy. See our Permits and Licenses page for more information.

My proposed use is permitted by-right in my Zoning District. Do I need a permit?

Yes. All commercial changes of use and/or occupancy require a Land Use permit, and may require a Certificate of Use and Occupancy. Residential uses need a Land Use permit and Certificate of Use and Occupancy only if it is being converted from another use (Ex: single-family home to two-family home, or renting out a former commercial space as a residential unit). See our Permits and Licenses page for more information.
